Step outside of the back door of Heron House and enjoy great walking. Bring or hire bikes for great cycling. There is also horse riding, numerous golf courses and fishing opportunities close by.

For enthusiasts of archeology the earliest record of human occupation in Eglingham include many burial sites and a number of Iron Age settlements are evident, including a promontory fort just west of the village.

The Northumberland National Park, which covers a tapestry of open moorland, burns, woodland, meadows and wide river valleys is just six miles away.

The county town of Alnwick, with its famous "Harry Potter Castle" and award winning Alnwick Garden, shops, supermarkets and restaurants, a leisure centre, swimming pool and theatre is only a ten minute drive away..
